Let Ascension’s School Nursing services take your school’s health and wellness to the front of the class.
Keeping students healthy and well
Ascension is committed to assisting your schools and students in achieving their optimal health status through health-related activities, education, appropriate prevention, and treatment and rehabilitation for injuries.
Our school nursing staff are highly trained and supervised registered nurses and nurse practitioners placed directly within your school campus. The nursing staff work closely with an Ascension physician to:
- Assist in the development of nursing protocols
- Provide input on areas of potential training needs
- Provide consultative services for school leadership to address concerns impacting students
Services our school nurses can provide include:
- Provide first aid for students and staff that are ill or injured
- Provide health screenings such as vision, hearing, physicals and flu shot clinics
- Facilitate Individual Health Plans (IHP’s) and 504 meetings with student and families, as well as school staff
- Monitor immunizations and record into school’s charting system
- Provide training and education to school staff on Stop the Bleed, QPR, epi-pens, diabetes, seizures and life threatening allergies
- Classroom education on topics such as nutrition, proper handwashing, vaping
- Provide nurse coverage if summer school is offered
- Administer medication and documentation processes
- Provide referral options to community health providers for health, mental health, dental and other community services as appropriate
